Scanning

Scanning is the most important step in the process of digital printing. You must begin with a good scan if you are hoping to be left with a great print. We do our very best to capture every detail in the shadows, highlights and the tonal details in between to give you as good a scan a possible.

If you would like your artwork scanned, you would need to make an appointment to drop off the work, which will take at least 2 days to scan.

We are able to capture any artwork, up to a size of approximately 48”x60”.

Costs:

We cannot give a final estimate on the cost of scanning until we see the artwork in real life. Any estimates that we give over the phone or be email are only estimates, and may change.

We do traditional flatbed scanning which can capture every fine detail of an artwork for pieces size up to 11x17” for a cost of $35 - $55 per piece depending on the ppi you require

We can also scan larger works up to approximately 16”x26” in sections on the flatbed scanner and reassemble them in post production, giving you a very high quality scan of a larger piece. This is what is considered a hack and does not always perform well. We are always willing to try and if the process fails, we won’t charge you. This process is $70 - $110 per piece depending on the ppi you require

We photograph with a 50mp Hasselblad all artwork of a size larger than approximately 16”x26”. The size and nature of the artwork will determine that price, starting at $95 each.

NOTE: The scan resulting from our capture method often appears faded and dull. It may also be a slightly different color than expected. This is due to the process of capturing the entire range of color and tone in the largest possible gamut. The raw scan will need to be adjusted for later use, depending on your intention (for instances posting on the web or printing). Adjustment after scanning can be made by Brooklyn Archival but will incur an additional cost.

We do not accept paintings or artworks which contain wet or damp paint, or have residue of any kind of the surface. Also, artworks which have a shiny reflective surface may not photograph or scan very well, and if needed will accrue additional costs dependent on the difficulty of photographing. We cannot scan gold leaf.

Also, artwork should be removed from any frames before dropping it off to be scanned. If Brooklyn Archival is asked to remove artwork from a frame in order to scan it, we will charge an additional fee, and we DO NOT guarantee that the artwork will be removed without damage.
